J.K. In his publication On Composing , he remembers:”From the time I was 14…the nail in my own wall will no longer hold the weight of this rejection slips impaled upon it. I replaced the nail with a spike kept on writing” He obtained 60 rejections prior to purchasing his first short story,”The Glass Floors,” for $35. His now bestselling publication, Carrie, was not a hit first. After dozens of rejections, he finally sold it for a meager progress to Doubleday Publishing, in which the hardback sold just 13,000 copies–perhaps not wonderful. Shortly after, however, Signet Books signed for the paperback rights for about $400,000, $200,000 of that went on King. Success attained!

When Carrey had been 14 years old, his dad lost his occupation , along with his family hit tough times. They moved to a VW van on a relative’s yard, and the young aspiring comic –who had been so devoted to his craft he sent his resume to The Carroll Burnett Show only a couple of years before, at age 10–shot an eight-hours-per-day mill job after college to make ends meet.
